Friends Thanksgiving '09

Last night was our 6th annual Friends Thanksgiving, which continues to be one of our most treasured traditions. We are so thankful for these enduring friendships and all that they bring to our lives. And we are thankful for the 10 great kids that were with us this year, with more on the way for next year! Our fantastic hosts Jeff and Sarah asked if I would bring an activity for all those kids, so Sylvie and I came up with this turkey hat.
If you want to make one for yourself, cut a strip of paper to fit around your child's head (or yours, if you want to be the most festive guest at your Thanksgiving dinner). Use the wide end of a glass to trace and cut out a circle in brown for the body, and then use the thinner end to trace and cut out a circle in brown for a face. Cut out fall-colored feathers, little eyes, beak and waddle, and assemble. Ta-da! Turkey hat.

As for pictures of the actual Friends Thanksgiving potluck, I don't really have any of those. A party with 10 kids is busy! We all had a great time. Sylvie especially loved snuggling and rocking her 4 month old friend Wesley. In the car on the way home, she admitted she had hoped to kidnap him.

Mommy: Sylvie, you were so sweet and gentle with your friend Wes.

Sylvie: I was trying to take him.

Daddy: Trying to take him where?

Sylvie: Home.

In her defense, he is irresistible.
