C is for Caterpillar

Sylvie's favorite present from Hanukkah is definitely her butterfly kit, and a few friends have asked about it so I thought I would post the info about it here. Thomas has done the caterpillar thing with his 1st and 2nd grade classes most years and, honestly, I was always a little envious. It sounded really cool. Now that I have a 2.5 year old, it seemed like a good excuse to do it. And it's been so much fun!

This is the butterfly kit Sylvie got, which comes with a flyer you mail in to get your caterpillars. You can specify either immediate delivery or give the week when you want them delivered. Or you can order the kit directly from the manufacturer and it will arrive, caterpillars and all. Our little guys started to hang upside down and make their chrysalis about 1 week after their arrival.
Sylvie's a huge Very Hungry Caterpillar fan, so she had an idea about the caterpillar life cycle, but I also printed out and had Thomas laminate these sequencing cards. Sylvie loves these and they have definitely been a huge help in teaching her about what's going on with her caterpillars. I printed out extra copies, which she likes to color.

Some other activities we've done to go along with our caterpillars is the egg carton caterpillar and this C is for Caterpillar coloring page. Today we did this Caterpillar to Butterfly craft and I think we will do this Thumb Print Caterpillar and Butterfly this week. There is definitely lots of cool stuff out there to go with learning about the caterpillar life cycle. So have fun, all our friends who decide to kick off the New Year with some pet caterpillars!
