It's Showtime!

Thomas and I have enjoyed watching the Winter Olympics, but whenever there is that much TV watching going on, I need a project to keep my hands busy. Sylvie had been busy making some brown paper bag puppets for a couple of days, which got me thinking of puppet theaters. I pulled out my box of felt and a few days later, we have a brand new doorway puppet theater! The audience waits patiently.
Our doorway theater is a no-sew version, made of felt which I adhered with one of my very favorite products ever, Aleene's Tacky Glue. The red felt garland I found in the ribbon section of Joanne's about a year ago. I bought it with no plan in mind but just knowing that it was too fantastic not to one day become useful. The hands of the clock are velcro, so that Sylvie can update her showtimes as needed.

I came across quite a few versions of this idea during my research, so if anyone else is interested in a doorway puppet theater, here are a some thoughts...

The simplest version of all: a cafe curtain (or 1 yard of fabric) hung from a tension rod in the doorway. I love that this could be accomplished in minutes for $15 or less.

For people with actual sewing skills: instructions from County Living.

If you just want to buy one: Restoration Hardware has a really cute one, and it's even on sale!

And a good resource for more puppet ideas: the Kids Craft Weekly Puppet Issue. (Sylvie is holding her wooden spoon puppets in the picture above.)

Nadine, you are so AMAZING and INSPRIRING! I LOVE the doorway puppet theater and since I'm not as crafty as you, I just might be purchasing the theater from Restoration Hardwear. We have a love for the theater, home or not, and we have many puppets that have been dying for a stage. Such a wonderful idea!!!

Aww, thank you! I say get it! I wouldn't say that for the original $89 but the sale price seems reasonable and it's so cute. Sylvie has loved hers, not just for puppet shows but also to pretend it's the door to her room. She comes to the window if you ask if anyone's home. So lots of creative play. And I love it because it can be thrown into the closet when we don't want it around!
