What a week it has been for Sylvie! She started her new preschool on Monday.
Sylvie and I have been very busy over the last few weeks looking into preschools. I involved Sylvie in the process as much as possible and took her with me to observe 3 different schools. It allowed Sylvie and I to talk a lot about what makes a good school and why school is important. In the end, I think involving her in the selection process also really helped in readying her for the transition.
I stayed with Sylvie at school on Monday and Wednesday. On Thursday we joined the school for a field trip. Then Sylvie and I decided that Friday she was ready for me to drop her off. We got to school and I hung around while Sylvie made a beeswax candle. Then she moved over to a table where some children were making soup. She started to cut potatoes, and I got my kiss and said good-bye. She was so brave and so ready! I picked her up at lunchtime and she was really excited about her day. She had done "share can" at circle time, which involves bringing an item from home, hiding it in a bucket and then giving the kids clues to guess what's in the can. Sylvie brought Big Bird and one of her friends guessed correctly from Sylvie's clues. This has been such a wonderful week, watching Sylvie's confidence in herself grow. Here are a few pictures from her week.
