One of the things I wanted in a preschool for Sylvie was mixed ages. Many preschools separate age groups but I really wanted a combined class because there is so much older kids can teach younger kids and so much younger kids can teach older kids. Last week at school, two of the 3 year old boys wanted to do puzzles but were finding it too difficult. I asked Sylvie and her friend Ava (both 4) if they could help the younger boys.
Isn't this picture awesome? I think so much about preschool learning is setting the stage for it and then getting out of the child's way. This kind of moment is exactly what I hoped for in a mixed age preschool.
