Butterflies!

Our butterflies have hatched! Our first came out yesterday afternoon. We decided we would observe it and give Sylvie the chance to feed it sugar water for a day and then release it into the garden.

Feeding time...

The release was planned for this afternoon when Daddy got home from work. But when we went into Sylvie's room to get the butterfly, there were 7 more! [Well 8, but one didn't make it. And there's one more cocoon which we suspect is a dud. And did you know that emerging from a cocoon is actually a little bit bloody? But anyway...] 8 butterflies in all!

This Painted Lady found a new home in our kale plants.
