Since Nora is turning 6 months old in October, I had it in mind for awhile that her first food should be pumpkin. We decided this week that we were ready to start solid food, so we headed to Whole Foods to check out the organic squash selection. 12 dollars for an organic pie pumpkin?!?! I decided to pick up a butternut and a kabocha squash instead. I wasn't sure what a kabocha squash was but it looked like a little green pumpkin. I came home and wikipedia-ed it and it turns out kabocha is commonly known as "Japanese pumpkin" and has a taste that's a cross between pumpkin and sweet potato. Sounded like perfect baby food!
Perhaps you recall that Sylvie got off to a slow start with solid foods, so I was prepared for rejection. But nope! Nora gives kabocha squash 2 enthusiastic thumbs up!Yummy!
Since starting solids is a very important time in a baby's life, Sylvie decided to make Nora a card. As I'm sure you can tell, that is a picture of Nora eating squash with "Sylvie" written on top. After she finished drawing Sylvie asked me to write: "Congratulations on getting to eat squash Norsie!"

I love how Nora's highchair has no fluffy padding! All that frou frou stuff we need for the first child goes out the window with the second (or so I've heard!) :) Oh the wonderful world of purees, love it!!
