I have heard lots of good things about the Palos Verdes tide pools (including this great NPR story) and last weekend we finally had a chance to make the trip. We stopped on our way for lunch down at the Long Beach port, at Berth 55 for shrimp cocktail and clam chowder.
Our plan was to go to Abalone Cove, but there was some kind of event going on along Palos Verdes Drive that made access impossible. So we ended up using the public access trail at the Trump National Golf Course to get down to the beach. This was actually a wonderful change of plans because this is the spot (pre-Trump Golf Course) where Thomas and I got married 7 years ago.
The hike down to the beach was only about a half a mile.
It was rocky around the tide pools so Sylvie stuck close to Thomas.
And Nora was in the carrier on my back, which she didn't mind too much.
There was quite a lot to see in the tide pools, including sea anemones, urchins, crabs and starfish.
Norsie got to get out and have some fun over on the pebbly beach.
All in all, a perfect way to spend our day together. We are looking forward to another trip to check out Abalone Cove.
