Jungle Bells at the Zoo

Sylvie, Thomas, my brother and I took a trip down to the San Diego Zoo on Monday to meet up with Jules and Logan and check out the Zoo's Jungle Bells celebration. I just love the giraffes, they seem so gentle and sweet.I especially love the giraffe in the orange hat!
Taking a little break with Uncle Rich,
and snuggling up with Daddy.
Sylvie really wanted to take her first ride on the sky buckets, but was feeling a little worried about how high they were. I told her, "Don't worry, it's safe." She loved her sky bucket ride and said several times, "This is safe! This is safe!" That's Sylvie, Jules and I in sky bucket #28.
Logan wasn't at all worried. He's an old sky bucket pro.

Zoo with Grandma & Papa

Last time we went to the San Diego Zoo we decided to go for the membership, which came with 2 free passes. Sylvie's Grandma and Papa (or as she calls them, "MaPapa") have been talking for quite a while about wanting a trip to the Zoo with Sylvie, so we knew immediately who we would bestow our Zoo passes on. Yesterday was our trip to the Zoo with MaPapa. This time, like last time, we got there around 2pm and stayed until it closes at 9pm. The evening at the Zoo is so nice. The animals are cooled down and more active, and the weather is really pleasant. The okapis are usually really shy so we were amazed that they came so close!
THIS close!
Sylvie got a great view of the tigers too.
In the bear cave with MaPapa...
We were so glad that Jules and Logan met up with us for dinner! We ate in the Elephant Odyssey and could watch the elephants while we ate.
Playing after dinner...
Thomas and Logan...
How cuuuute is this baby giraffe??? Those long legs are so tough, gotta get some stability! The giraffes were unbelievably adorable last night, this little guy's daddy even came over to give him some kisses on the back while he drank.
We are big fans of the SD Zoo!

San Diego Day 2: Zoo

Saturday, we met up with a big group of friends for a day at the Zoo to celebrate the birthdays of our friends Blythe and Zoe. It was a big group and so much fun!

We got an awesome view of the lions. See that big guy back there? And just after I took this picture, his lady friend came over too. This is as close to the pandas as we got. The panda line was way too long for the 2 year old attention span (grown-ups too, actually).
We celebrated the birthdays with a special dinner. Our friend Zoe is 6, can you believe it???
Everybody shared in the ice cream. Koa and Dylan dig in!
My favorite moment at the Zoo was when we told Sylvie we were going to the okapis. Sylvie is a huge okapi fan, but she's never seen one live. Thomas and I last went to the SD Zoo when I was just pregnant. We bought Sylvie a stuffed okapi, which has become a very treasured friend. So when she heard the okapis were next, Sylvie ran through the Zoo crowd screaming "okapis! okapis!" When we got there though the okapis were pretty far away and no matter how many times Sylvie yelled, "okapis! come!" they just didn't listen. But on our way out of the Zoo, looking through the gift shop, we found these...
OKAPI SHOES!! Sylvie's face pretty much says it all. She was so thrilled. Sizing was limited, so yes, those are really large. They will be part of the dress-up box for a long time to come.
