Halloween 2011

Halloween is always a favorite day of the year and this year was no different. We kicked it off a few weeks prior with some crafts and decorating. The girls loved making skeletons with Q-tips.
And Sylvie used a big circle punch to make a garland out of paint chips. We live really close to a Home Depot, so paint chips have become a staple craft supply.

As for the costumes, Sylvie and I talked for a couple months about chicken costumes for her and Nora, based on the Martha Stewart chicken costume, but with modifications to make them more true to our chickens. Then at snack at school one day, I heard Sylvie tell her friends that she was going to be an Angry Bird for Halloween, specifically, the black bomb Angry Bird. And you may recall from last year's green snake costume that when Sylvie has decided on her costume, she is very specific and very clear in her vision. So black bomb Angry Bird it was.

Talented Daddy to the rescue, who made not only a black bomb Angry Bird costume for Sylvie but also a yellow Angry Bird costume for Nora. I helped a little with the sewing but since my contribution included things like sewing the arm holes closed and then begging Thomas to fix it for me, Thomas should really just get all the credit for these.

On Halloween Day there was a party at Sylvie's school for the families. This meant Nora was included too and I packed her her own lunch box to make sure it was a very special day for her. Nora adores Sylvie's school and between putting her own lunchbox into Sylvie's cubbie and staying to play with the big kids the whole time, it might have been the greatest day of Nora's life.

The school was looking festive...
There were different activities for the kids, like bobbing for little donuts hung from strings, and decorating tangerines to look like Jack-o-lanterns. The tangerine table was by far Nora's favorite. I think she ate 7.

All of the kids trick-or-treated to some local businesses that were ready and waiting with great treats for them. Then, after school, I took the girls trick-or-treating down Main Street where most of the businesses were handing out treats.
That night we had our annual Family Halloween night and had a great time with family and neighbors. Sylvie and Nora had so much fun that they still sometimes put their costumes on and pretend they are trick-or-treating.
